Champagne Guillaume Selosse S. - 'Au Dessus du Gros Mont' Extra Brut
93 points – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
“The NV (Extra‑Brut) Au Dessus du Gros Mont is fabulous. Rich and expansive on the palate, this offers tremendous nuance along with all the complexity that comes from the blend of 50 % base wine and perpetual reserve dating back to 2008. Dried pear, citrus peel, chamomile, almond and spice all grace the palate. Pretty tropical overtones lift the aromatic finish.”
Nose: A layered bouquet of bright citrus zest, candied pear and chamomile flowers, underpinned by gentle baking‑spice notes and a hint of toasted almond.
Palate: Medium‑full and texturally rich, with vivid flavors of dried stone fruit, orange oil and warm pastry spices. The mousse is pillowy yet precise, offering a luxurious mouthfeel.
Finish: Long and resonant, with saline tension that frames lingering tropical notes and a touch of honeyed warmth.
Serve well‑chilled (8–10 °C) as a standout aperitif or alongside shellfish (especially scallops or lobster) and creamy soft‑rind cheeses to showcase its depth and finesse.
